Kelly Slater’s Surf Spots. Really.

This weekend, the Quiksilver Pro hits New York City. And while summer is on it’s way out, surfing is clearly in. A few weeks ago we decided to check in with Kelly Slater, the ten-time World Surfing Champion, for the world’s best surf destinations. When he’s not on the water, the Quiksilver-sponsored athlete and obsessive traveler also runs the Kelly Slater Foundation, which supports social and environmentally minded charities, and plays golf all around the world.

Just one problem: Slater was nowhere to be found. Apparently, he’d heard that the waves in Fiji were going off and had dropped everything to get there, not to surface for days. We finally got in touch (did we mention he is in Long Beach!) and Slater shared his top nine surfing destinations around the world, plus tips on what to do while there.

As any adrenaline junkie knows, skydiving is the ultimate thrill. Those few seconds during free fall are as close to flying as we humans will probably ever get. Now imagine hurling yourself out of a plane at 29,500 feet — in full view of Mount Everest. To call it a rush would be an understatement… would you jump?

5 Reasons to Love Racecar Driving in Baja

Start your engines and feel the adrenaline rush. During Momentum Adventure‘s six-day Baja Adventure, you’ll roar through the desert in a limited edition Baja Challenger racecar; chase mighty blue marlin in the Sea of Cortez; shoot under par at a Jack Nicklaus-designed course and dream big in a posh villa on the grounds of the iconic One&Only Palmilla. Here, reporter Maribeth Mellin’s top 5 reasons to race on down to Baja:

1. Mastering a state-of-the-art dune buggy designed for the SCORE Baja 1,000, one of the world’s best off-road races

2. Zooming through moon-like craters and cacti forest during a heart-thumping race through the desert…then taking a dip in a waterfall to cool down

3. Driving as fast as you possibly can, then pushing it even faster

4. Balancing on two wheels on a rocky precipice and staying upright

5. Glimpsing flashes of blue waves from mountain peaks

And, when it’s all over, sipping a snifter of Clase Azul tequila beneath a rose-streaked sunset sky.
