St. Lucia. A swift direct flight from most East Coast hubs, honeymooners make for the island’s lush southwest coast where a slew of made-for-romance boutique hotels cling to the cliffside overlooking the Piton peaks. The rugged island offers plenty of daytime activites (hike the Pitons, take a boat trip to Castries, visit the world’s only drive-in volcano), but most honeymooners are content to hide away in their villas or lounge out between the Pitons on Sugar Beach. Stay at beachside Jalousie Plantation, the spectacular open-air-style Jade Mountain, or cliffside, tropical-chic Anse Chastanet Resort.
Italy. Whether you go road tripping in the Tuscan Maremma, gallery-hopping in Florence, on a cruise to Capri or to little-known corners of rugged Puglia, Italy is one of our most popular honeymoon spots. And, save some scorching temperatures in August, Italy’s Mediterranean climate pairs perfectly with wedding season. Stay in 14th-century, canal-side Ca’Sagredo Hotel in Venice; the gorgeous converted castle, Castell di Casole, just outside Siena; or cliffside Hotel Santa Caterina on Amalfi.
French Polynesia. The castaway experience gone luxe, honeymooners head to French Polynesia to lounge on the white sand beaches and sleep above the fishes in an overwater bungalow. The long flight (it’s almost a full day of travel from the East Coast) means couples tend to book for a week or more. Stay at Legends Resort Moorea on Papeete or book a 10-day trip with stops in Moorea and Bora Bora.
Greece. Good for anyone on a budget, couples head to Greece for a dose of history and culture in Athens, and pure relaxation and romance on the islands of Santorini or Mykonos. On Santorini, make the obligatory trip to the cliffside village of Oia for some of the most breathtaking sunsets you’ll ever see. Stay at Athen’s hip New Hotel; the all-suite De.light Boutique Hotel on Mykonos; and cliffside in idyllic Oia at the Andronis Luxury Suites.
Argentina. Argentina tops the list for foodies, wine-lovers and anyone who wants to get off the beaten path. A popular route takes in the vineyards of Mendoza, the rugged landscape of Punta del Este across the border in Uruguay and the eclectic, buzzing capital of Buenos Aires. See the very best of Argentina on a 12-day customizable tour.
